Who you are

You do not do rationing. You buy too much, invite too many, and set the table for the number who might arrive rather than the number who replied. The surplus is the entire point. Somewhere early on you decided that scarcity is a story people tell themselves to feel safe, and you have been arguing against it with food and money and hours ever since.

What you rarely admit is how much you need the noise of a full room. The sound of people eating what you made is the closest thing you have to being told you are enough, so you keep the plates coming and the glasses filled and never sit down long enough for anybody to ask you a real question.

Sit down while the food is still hot. Let somebody else carry the dish in and get it wrong. Your work is to be a guest at your own table long enough to find out whether you are loved for the abundance or for the person who keeps producing it.
