Who you are

Your first instinct with anything new is to find out what it is made of. A new colleague, a promising job, a belief everyone around you seems to hold without question. You push on it, ask the thing nobody asks, and watch what happens under a bit of pressure. Most things do not survive this, which is rather the point, and you would sooner know in month one.

You have two speeds and nothing in between them. Total absence or total commitment, and people who only met the first are startled by the second. You are not cold in the assessing stage. You are deciding whether this is worth the version of you that shows up when you say yes, because that version does not do half measures and cannot be recalled.

Nobody can pass an examination they were never told they were sitting.

Finish the process instead of running it again. When somebody has proved themselves, say so out loud and let the testing end, because a person kept permanently on trial will eventually leave the court. What you choose deserves your warmth and not only your loyalty.
