Who you are

You are careful about who gets close, and the care is not shyness. It is arithmetic. You have worked out what it costs to be known by somebody, and you have paid it enough times to know the figure exactly. When you decide a person is worth it, you lower the guard deliberately, and for a while afterwards you are genuinely easy to hurt. You do it anyway.

You are not hiding, exactly. You are waiting for a moment when telling will not cost you something you might need next week. The moment rarely arrives on its own.
