Who you are

You are the one who writes it down. Not because you are rigid, but because you know competence falls apart under fatigue and a written line holds when a person does not. The thank you gets sent. The call gets returned on the day you said. The step everybody skips is the one you mark clearly, usually because skipping it went badly once.

What makes you good rather than fussy is that you keep cutting. The twenty steps become nine, and the nine actually get done. You have learned that a procedure nobody follows is worse than none at all, because it produces the feeling of being covered without the fact of it. You would rather be genuinely prepared than look thorough to somebody watching.
