Who you are

You go under the surface. Where other people take the presenting problem at face value, you ask the question that sounds slightly rude because it is the only one that gets an answer. You are not trying to win. You are trying to find out what the ground will actually hold before anybody builds anything heavy on top of it.

The trouble is knowing when to stop. You have run the same decision through your head forty times, from every angle, and the fortieth pass told you nothing the third one did not. You call it being thorough. Some of it is. The rest is a way of putting off the moment when you have to act on what you already found out.

Learn where the useful depth ends. Examine the decisions that will carry weight and leave the rest of your life alone. Your work is to trust a finding once you have it, act on it, and let the question close instead of reopening it at midnight.
