Who you are

You always know what a person was carrying. Before you decide whether a result was impressive, you take off the year they had, the family situation, the thing they never mentioned to anybody, and then you look at what is left. Your praise is worth having because of it, and people who have been praised by you tend to remember the sentence.

You will also not let anybody inflate a claim by counting the packaging. Fairness, in your hands, is not the same thing as kindness. It is a correct subtraction done without malice, which makes you the friend people come to when they want to know whether something was actually good or only loud and well timed.

• Accounts for the load. You weigh a result against the conditions it was produced in, which makes your praise worth having.
