Who you are

You have been the second pair of eyes your whole life. Not because the first person was careless, but because one reader misses what two readers do not, and you understood that long before anybody put you in a job where it mattered. You come to things cold and refuse to be told in advance what you are supposed to find there.

You will do it slowly, again, on a Friday evening, at the same standard as a Monday morning. It costs you something real. Being the check means that success looks like nothing happened at all, and the credit goes to whoever signed at the bottom, which you accepted years ago and still notice every single time.

The other edge is corrosive: after enough years of finding what others missed, you start assuming that anything you have not personally examined is wrong. That is contempt with good manners.

Be the safeguard and still make something of your own. Read second where it saves people, then write a first draft with your name on it and hand it to somebody else to pull apart. Two readers catch more. Neither of them catches everything, and that was always the arrangement.
