Who you are

Waiting does not cost you what it costs other people. You can hold a decision open for months, sit through the slow middle of a treatment or a lawsuit or a marriage, and stay reasonable the entire time. Part of that is temperament and part of it is something you learned early, probably from a stretch of childhood where nothing was ever going to be resolved on your schedule.

People bring you their long problems for this reason. Not the emergencies, the ones with no end date. You are good company in a hospital corridor or the second year of somebody's grief, because you are not counting the minutes and they can feel that. You never push anyone toward being finished, which is the exact reason they eventually get there.
