Who you are

You are good at the last ten minutes before something frightening. The interview, the speech, the first day, the conversation somebody has been dreading for a fortnight. You do not give a pep talk. You say one accurate sentence about what they are actually good at, and they go in believing it because it came from someone who does not flatter.

You read the mood of a group before anybody speaks. You can tell who is anxious, who has been crying in the car, who is about to say something they will regret, and you adjust the room quietly so the worst of it does not happen. Nobody notices this being done. That is the whole point, and you would not want it otherwise.
