Who you are

Nothing you feel arrives on schedule. The thing that happened in March lands properly in November, and by then everyone else has moved on and assumes you have too. You have not. You are still going over it, in the car, in the shower, at four in the morning, adding a little more understanding each time until it is smooth enough to hold.

You remember everything, including the tone of voice. This is the difficult half of your gift. A sentence said to you fifteen years ago is still available in full, and you can hear it whenever you want, which is not often useful. But it also means you understand injury properly, and people who are hurt find you unusually easy to talk to.
