Who you are

You finish goodbyes. Everyone means to. The plan sits there for a year, and then you book the day, drive out, and do the thing itself, which is always smaller and stranger than the ceremony was. You need no audience and no script for it. What other people postpone indefinitely, you will do on a Tuesday, on your own if nobody else can face it.

You are not squeamish about the physical facts of loss, so you stay gentle in the moments where other people go stiff and formal. You can let a person or a chapter go without pretending it was smaller than it was. Letting go, for you, has never required first deciding that the thing was not worth very much.
