Who you are

You keep things. Not everything and not for what they are worth: a ticket from a night nobody else remembers, a saved voicemail from someone who has died, a jumper that stopped fitting ten years ago. Anyone tidying your house calls it clutter. To you it is evidence, and you do not accept that something stops being real just because it ended.

You do the same with people. You never delete anyone. The friend who wronged you, your partner as they were before the bad year, your brother at nine years old, all of them still exist somewhere in your keeping and get taken out on certain dates. It is why you grieve honestly, and why nobody has ever talked you out of loving someone.
